Performance on the shore of Tooetunook (Avon River), April 2021
5 minute video, performance with clay and rock
tw: depictions of self injury/hitting
Processes of healing and hurting are not disparate or linear; they are symbiotic. Through this piece, I complicate binaries around self care and destruction in navigating shores of fluctuating states of mind and body. Site specific to the Bay of Fundy, known for its high and rapidly changing tides, this work reflects upon ever shifting internal and external natural patterns. This work is centred around a ritual in which I broke a fragile clay armour formed around parts of my body that hold the most vulnerability and emotion. In this looping video work, the pieces break in visceral release and reform in reverse, breaking and healing infinitely. Exploring the ways madness manifests in my body and processes of pattern recognition, this piece is a part of my practice in investigating/creating connections within liminal states.
